M You have contributed towards the production of a practical portfolio of examples of editing techniques that have been annotated to explain how these techniques and conventions developed from early filmmakers with some reference to their purpose in contemporary examples. (Merit)
Your timeline has mainly description of developments in film editing referring to specific examples of films by the Early Pioneer filmmakers and there is discussion of how one stage led on to the other within the context of the principles of in camera editing, continuity, soviet montage (Pass)
Your video guide youtube annotations – a variety of examples from early modern cinema have been edited together. There is some sense of argument about the nature of alternative techniques used for style and examples are detailed when the text matches up with the relevant examples (though not always). (Merit/Distinction)
P2 M2 D2 P Most steps have been followed to a standard approaching professional practice within a realistic time constraint. Bins done, Shots Logged good or bad & shot types. There is no EDL and no editor’s log to demonstrate understanding of preparation. The edit was completed to a realistic timescale under controlled conditions and the student worked in a manner approaching professional standards.
P3 M3 D3 P The thriller narrative sequence has been edited to produce a preliminary rough cut, then a 5 minute short film. Non diegetic Sounds added – horror strange screams and song – unsuitable and not timed correctly. Continuity broken not making sense with the flashbacks (repeatedly used – narrative unclear) and brightness effects
Chase sequence lacks pace and stops. The brief was a Thriller not a Horror. The edit was completed to a realistic timescale under controlled conditions and you worked in a manner approaching professional standards.
